Technographics Data Types

Technographics data is the data we provide when a company is using a particular software like X, Y or Z and:

1. They started using it on a specific date. 

2. They have been using it for the last 3 years.

3. The amount of money they spend on that technographics data or technology.

4. The estimated date of contract expiration. 

5. Another way of defining technographics data is by seeing what technologies the company is using, how long they have been using it, and what is their technology percent. 

Technographics Data & Its Filters

Any kind of new filter is essential and valuable for marketing and sales. Filters are used to reduce or select the right customers that they want to target. Technographics and Intent data have filters like firmographics, revenue, and employee count, and they all are used to choose the right audience. 

Technographics Data is a new generation filter that is becoming consequential because SaaS businesses are growing enormously. The number of technology platforms and technologies being offered to businesses is also increasing significantly. When these technology platforms or IT services companies need to choose the right accounts, they need a unique filter, and that filter is a technographics filter for them. 

Growing Demand for Technographics Data

The number of software available to companies is increasing. At the same time, the number of companies in software is also growing, and it is impossible to target all of them. The cost of marketing and executing marketing campaigns, performance marketing, and doing google ads and LinkedIn ads is also rising.

The Three Methods to Get Technographics Data

1. Front-end/web-based technologies: These technologies are available on the websites of these companies. That is why they are called front-end technographics.

2. Back-end-based technologies: These technologies are enterprise software that is not available on the website but are still being used by the company. These are generally costlier, with the cost varying from 5000>, and they need manpower to support them.

3. The software behind firewalls: These technologies cannot be detected easily. Sometimes you can ping the firewalls and servers to get this information about them but not always. 

The Software and Technology Intent

 

Technographics data involves the software that is being used! Sometimes, the name of the software the companies are using is not available, but you can figure out the technology or framework and their best practices. This is also a part of technographics. For example, company X may be using software named selenium, so that’s an example where you are providing the name of the technographics data. On the other hand, when you say that company Y is using test automation, it’s still a technology intent and part of technographics data, but it doesn’t tell you what software they are using. However, both are important and can be utilized in marketing campaigns and segmentation.  

 

How to Select the Right Technographics Signals for Better Targeting?

This is where enterprise, mid-market, and small companies use technographics data. Technographics data have two elements to it:

1. The name of the software being used by the customer.

2. The date when the software license expires.

 

Small and mid-market companies can go for email marketing or other outreach campaigns based on the software being used. They can find companies using specific software like AWS, selenium, or GitLab. They can find the customers, email them all, or reach out to them. 

However, enterprise companies have more mature marketing departments. These sales-driven companies dig deeper. When the sales team uses this data, they don’t want to approach everybody because their goal is not to increase engagement but conversion. They don’t want to reach out to several people. They want to target and talk to 10 useful people and convert them. They are expecting the name of the software they are using and when the license of this software expires. 

For example, if you want to talk to Oracle NetSuite users, you must speak to them only when it’s the right time! The right time would be when the contract/ license expires. Hence, you should reach out to them three or six months before the license expiration date.
