Affinity Health Plan has a knack for providing health care services to New York families. The not-for-profit company offers a variety of managed care services for low to moderate-income residents of New York City, Long Island, and surrounding counties. The company serves more than 275,000 participants in its state-sponsored Child Health Plus, Family Health Plus, Medicaid, and Medicare programs. It also offers specialty programs for maternity, dental, vision, behavioral health, and pharmacy services. Affinity Health's provider network includes 10,000 primary care and specialist physicians, as well as more than 80 hospitals. The company was established in 1986 as the Bronx Health Plan. In addition to making sure pregnant women, newborns, and children receive proper medical care, Affinity Health works to provide disease management programs for community members suffering from diabetes, asthma, HIV/AIDS, and other ailments. The company operates community service centers throughout New York City that offer free health screenings and workshops. Affinity has opened about 20 facilities since the program started in 2005. The firm has also expanded its health plan offerings over the years. For instance, Affinity began offering two Medicare Advantage programs (Affinity Medicare Ultimate and Affinity Medicare Solutions) in 2007 after receiving approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The programs are designed for residents with dual Medicare and Medicaid eligibility.
